Nudging In

Rachell lounges in her beach chair soaking in the sun rays enjoying the quiet of the morning. Chester is wandering the lawn sniffing here and there to see what has passed through his yard overnight. Rachell is just about to doze off when Chester bounces onto the lawn chair and right to the middle of her lap.

“Here I am,” he delights as she witnesses his tongue wagging intensely right to left.

“Oh my, this is a big surprise. What are you doing up here?” she asks, trying to recall if she has ever seen him jump like this before.

“That was quite a leap with all four paws at once,” she cheers on Chester.

“You are getting some real good strength back in those legs,” Rachell continues.

She is thrilled to see Chester gaining weight. This exercise is a clear indication he is putting some muscle on too. She makes note that he is improving every day that he is in his new forever home. He follows her everywhere. He wants to be as close as possible to her every minute. Chester squirms himself into the crook of her arm at her shoulders to let Rachell know what he likes.

He nestles tightly as he reflects, “I’ll be content here while she sunbathes. I can nap peacefully if you’ll allow me nudging in!”

Be Happy

Chester wakes with a single thought wondering what Rachell has in mind for today. He extends his legs toward the ceiling to get the blood flowing. Then he stretches his paw-toes to get the flow to the tips of his limbs.

“Hold for a few seconds and feel the flow. Boy, this feels so good,” he relishes.

Chester arches his back and turns to see what Rachell is up to.  She is busy at her desk working diligently this bright, sunshiny morning. Chester moves to her desk and brushes up against her leg to let her know he is up.

He pauses looking straight up at her as he waits for what comes next. Rachell reaches down and picks him up. She pulls him close to her chest and lets him lick her cheek which she interprets as a kiss.

“Thank you for kiss,” she declares. “Good morning, sweet Chessie.”

He replies in his squirming action, “Good morning to you, darling.”

They snuggle close and share this precious moment to start their day. Rachell then lifts him face to face and smiles.

“You make me so very happy, little one,” she declares with excitement.

Chester wags his tail feverishly to share his thought that begins each day for them, “BE HAPPY!”

Super Blue Moon

Rachell gently lifts me up and embraces me close as she starts down the staircase. The time is past midnight. Everyone else in the house is sleeping soundly. Most of the lights are off with the exception of the nightlights adorning the hallways and the kitchen incandescent overhead that forever shines for safety to descend the stairs.

“I wonder where we are headed this late at night,” Chester asks himself.

“We’re going to peer at the moon Chester,” Rachell shares as if reading his mind.

“The celestial body encircling the earth is the closest it will be for a long time giving off a blue tone as a result,” Rachell teaches.

Rachell steps out onto the front porch and totes Chester and camera to a spot with a clear view of the nighttime phenomenon. They sit silently together to take in the wonder of the sky. Rachell clicks many photos of the heavenly body for enjoyment in the days ahead.

“This won’t happen again until the year 2037, so take in the view dude,” Rachell imparts.

Chester is struck with awe as he gazes at the illuminated sky observing, “What a giant orb, this super blue moon!”

More Market Fun

“Are you ready to go to the market today?” Rachell asks Chester bright and early Saturday morning.

“Yes, I’m good to go,” Chester conveys as he hops up from his spot on her bed and prances excitedly down his pet steps to Rachell’s feet.

He sees her holding his travel pouch and jumps up touching her calf lightly to let her know he is ready to be placed in his carrying bag. Rachell adds a towel in the bottom of the big pouch to raise him up to be able to see over the edges.

“She takes great care to make sure my head is above the top so I can see everything around us,” Chester observes.

He knows Rachell works diligently for him to enjoy their outing as much as she does and that brings him tremendous pleasure. He likes to return the enjoyment and shows her by wiggling with delight as she places him in the sporty bag. The trip is short, and they park close to the vendors already set up for a sale of all kinds.

“Off we go,” Rachell proclaims as she swings the strap over her head and gets out of the car with him in tow.

Chester sits down in his travel pouch ready for the ride thinking, “Another great day with my Rachell having more market fun!”

Stop and Smell the Violets

“C’mon little man,” Rachell chides Chester into the backyard on another beautiful day in the spring afternoon.  She knows he’s got some business to attend to, but she wants him to play a little too. Chester wanders a moment or two sniffing his way around the yard.

Rachell thinks, “He looks like he’s tracking something,” as he stealthily keeps his nose to the ground and goes around the area he normally tracks.

Chester beelines for Rachell sitting on the ground waiting for him with his sniffer going full force. Suddenly, he stops and isolates himself on a small spot in the grass. Rachell looks more closely and sees a patch of wild violets. There are some wild white violets splattering the yard, but Chester has chosen the purple ones to investigate.

“What are these?” Chester inspects. He takes in the smell of the tiny flowers each one individually as he inhales the sweet aroma.

Rachell’s interest peaks and she grabs her phone to take a photo of this unique moment with him.

She records a very special moment with Chester with a picture and a thought, “We should take note, and like Chester, stop and smell the violets!”

Mountain Climber

Rachell watches her precious babe dog, Chester, as he pauses at the edge of the backyard he has explored for a number of years wondering what is on his mind. She sees him looking with a sweeping gaze right to left where the terrain begins to slope upward.

Her instincts tell her he is about to travel out of his regular wanderings, so she gets up from her wrought iron chair and moves in Chester’s direction.

“I’ve been playing here on the flat land for a while now,” Chester reminisces as he skirts the edge of Rachell’s garden area.

Her progress toward him is not fast enough. He takes off up the incline with Rachell chasing his every step up the slope in her backyard. She reaches Chester and scoops him up before he reaches the top of the mount. The hill behind her courtyard is a mountain to Chester due to its size. She carries Chester in her arms safely back to his play arena gently setting him down so she can rest a minute.

As if she is reading his mind, Rachell exclaims to Chester as he looks toward her for confirmation, “So now, we will call you Mountain Climber!”

Give Her a Paw

Rachell notices a little action Chester begins to use to get her attention. He reaches toward her when he comes in close and touches her gently with his tiny paw. Rachell decides to turn this into a trick for him to get excited about and get his favorite thing, a treat!

She waits as he sits in her lap looking up her way for indications of what comes next. Rachell turns her head from side to side to keep from meeting his eye stare. Next thing, she feels is his paw stretch to her and make contact with her arm to get her attention.

She reaches and shakes his paw while declaring the action, “Shake, Chester, shake.”

Chester looks up inquisitively trying to understand this new word.

Rachell releases his paw and then picks it up again while repeating the word again. “Shake, baby, shake.”

This time she offers him a treat when the trick is done. Chester scarfs up the treat and looks to Rachell for another. Shake, treat, repeat. After several repetitions, Chester raises his paw to her to show her he gets what she is going for. And she gives him another treat as she releases his paw from a successful paw shake.

“Good boy, Chester. Good shake. What a smart boy you are,” Rachell says to him as she raises Chester to her cheek and gives him a quick kiss. He wiggles with delight when he realizes the joy he gives Rachell with this new trick.

Chester knows this fun new trick shows her how quickly he learns and how much he wants to entertain her. New skill in his pocket, Chester logs, “All I have to do is give her a paw!”

Lifesaving

Rachell decides to take Chester to the animal doctor to see what is bothering his little system. She watches as the veterinarian looks in his ears, down his throat and a couple of other things. Chester listens as Rachell shares his symptoms of scratching his ears and his not wanting to eat. Once he finds out the remedy where she is going to force feed, he is shocked. When it happens, he cries out on some of the pushes of dog food into his mouth to tell Rachell he is not amused by this treatment.

Several days later, Rachell piles him up in the car again. And off to the vet they go for a follow up visit to see how he is improving. Chester bounces around a bit to show her he feels much better. They enter the clinic to wait Chester’s turn. When that time came, dog and owner await the doctor in an examination room. He listens as Rachell describes his squeal when she fed him via syringe.

Chester is thrilled, “She knows what I meant!”

“I feel bad torturing him this way,” Rachell comments to the Doc.

Dr. Kendrick replies, “Don’t think of this as torture. You save his life with every bite. Look at this as lifesaving!”

Pay Attention

Chester finds himself on a bed next to one of Mr. Mike Lindell’s giant puffy pillows and a throw blanket. He begins to start his nightly routine as Rachell notices the bed is not flush against the headboard leaving about 3 inches between the bed and wall for a dog Chester’s size to fall through.

Rachell exclaims, “Chester, stop. Come here, buddy,” as she reaches to grab him before he slips off the edge at the head of the bed.

“I’m not 3 inches wide,” he surmises. Chester stops in his tracks short of the gap and turns to face her.

“Whew, that was close,” he determines. Rachell’s hands encircle his tiny 2.5-pound body scooping him up to secure him in her arms. She gently puts him down so he can nestle against Lindell’s pillow. He feels safe as he snuggles into the soft blanket curled up like a bun.

Chester learns quickly, “I must pay attention!”

Discoveries Ahead

Chester patrols from his perch gazing right to left then back right on his level of sight. Rachell is strolling down the red brick aisle at the Farmer’s Market on the town square while he rides in his pet pouch all the way. He is going shopping this morning with his most favorite, Rachell. His head is the only thing anyone can see. A couple of guys with their gals spot him looking at them. They crouch to take a closer look as they ask permission to pet him.

Rachell replies, “Yes,” as Chester watches a hand gently reach to stroke the top of his head.

“How old is he?” one of the ladies asks.

“8 years,” Rachell responds.

“Oh, how sweet,” the lady professes. She bids thank you for the encounter with him.

Chester and Rachell move along the trail of fruit and vegetable tents that line the guided pathway. Bright yellow squash, pink and red radishes, white bok choi and many other edibles splash the scene.

Out of nowhere, Chester is faced with a small human in a stroller right next to him. He is very surprised to see a toddler on his eye level. He leans forward with his nose taking in the smell of this new encounter. The child reaches his little hand to pet Chester as he holds perfectly still.

Rachell lifts Chester to her face placing him nose to nose and states “Now this is what getting out and socializing is about. Let’s have some fun.”

Chester enjoys the brief interaction and thinks, “This is fun. I look forward to many more discoveries ahead!”
