Oodles of Outfits

Winter is in full swing. Chester’s thin hair and bare skin cause chills to beset him any time, any day. Rachell buys him little outfits to keep him warm and toasty on these cold days and nights. She overdoes this sometimes, so he has many for her to chose from. His personality beams through each outfit when he is sporting one of her choices.

Chester is wearing his Adidog suit today. He knows he is going to go out and run at the park at some point this afternoon. He gets excited to make Rachell aware that he is in on the plan. His outfit is sweatshirt-like and covers him neck to paws. This one will certainly keep him warm to play outside on this cold day.

He follows her every step as she gets ready to go. He dances around her going room to room to collect belongings for their excursion to exercise. Rachell reaches for her coat and puts it on.

Finally, she grabs her keys and asks him, “Are you ready to go, big dog?”

Chester jumps as high as he can to reply his readiness. She picks him up and pulls him close. Then they head out into the frigid wind.

Chester snuggles tightly to her chest as if to thank her for one of his “his oodles of outfits.”

Merry Christmas

The holiday season is filled with fun and laughter at Rachell’s house. She tends to go overboard some years, but that is the way some things go. And Chester does not complain. He gets all kinds of treats, toys, clothes and other special things like many children do at Christmas.

Chester sniffs amongst the wrapped gifts to see what he can find. He crouches low and steps on the gifts as he circles the tree poking his nose into every nook. He discovers one package that crackles like his treats do, so he pauses there a moment to see if he can get it open.

Rachell tells him to “Stop that, little one. You will get that surprise very soon.”

Chester moves from the present and hops into his new bed. He knows this one is his.

He beams as he looks toward Rachell as if to say, “Thanks, Mom. Merry Christmas!”

Rest and Recovery

Rachell lays Chester on the softest blanket she has with a pillow for him to sleep against. He stares up at her with his ears perked to listen. He knows her routine by now, and the afternoon ahead is time for him to nap.

Rachell asks, “Are you ready to rest for a bit, young man? I’ve got to get back to work.” Chester cuddles into a round ball and gives her his cutest smile in response letting her know he understands.

Rachell pets his tiny head to assure him she’s going to be right there and says, “This is good for you, Chester. You are recovering by leaps and bounds. Just relax and have some puppy dreams.” He lives to please her in everything he does. He quickly slips into dreamland filled with rainbows and unicorns, pursuing his goal “to rest and recover!”

Tom Turkey

“What a wonderful whiff of something,” Chester concedes as he lifts his nose skyward to take in the interesting aroma.

“What do you smell, little man?” Rachell asks as she watches him sniffing the air filled with her turkey baking for Thanksgiving dinner.

She waits for a distinct intensity that tells her the bird is done. She heads to the kitchen to take a 12-pound turkey out of the oven to rest a bit and finish the remaining casseroles and such for the once-a-year holiday meal. Chester follows closely at her heels. After the meal, Rachell carves up a small portion of turkey for Chester to enjoy. He eyeballs her cutting up the meat nugget size. He begins to hop and bop as he realizes this rare treat is for him. She sits down next to him on the floor and puts the turkey on his plate. Chester pounces on the deliciousness with zeal.

“This is an exception, Chessie, just so you know,” Rachell explains as he gobbles it up.

“This is turkey. My mom always calls it Tom Turkey,” Rachell giggles as she shares this fond recollection with Chester.

He likes to see her snickering as he scarfs up every morsel. He listens as she reminisces about good times with her mom. He jumps in her lap to show how excited he is creating a new memory with her.

Chester is so excited he stretches up and kisses her check expressing that he understands the special title her mom gives to Tom Turkey!

Have Pouch Will Travel

Rachell begins to hum the United States Air Force official song “Wild Blue Yonder” notes. She bobs back and forth to get Chester’s attention from where he lays watching her at the foot of the bed.

“Do you want to go for a ride?” she asks him with excitement as she pulls his pouch from the doorknob where she keeps it.

“Off we go into the wild blue yonder,” Chester sings along. He hops up and down on the bed to show his enthusiasm.

Rachell picks him up and places him inside the shoulder pouch with doggy bags attached in case needed. There is a comfort blanket to give him height to look out easily. Rachell checks to see that all the necessities are inside for him should he require anything. Collapsible water dish in case he gets thirsty, check. Leash for wandering open spaces if they stop by a park, check.

“We are good to go buddy,” Rachell declares.

Chester recognizes this GO command, runs down his pet steps.

He jumps up for Rachell to pick him up and place him safely inside letting her know, “I’m ready!”

This routine is solid. Chester loves his travel gear. He knows he can depend on the repeated sequence. He gets raring to go when he sees Rachel grab his pet sling. When she swings his carrier on to her shoulder like a purse, he settles to the bottom pouch to keep from popping out. This action lets Rachell know he’s situated for the ride which confirms his message, “Have pouch will travel.”

Happy Halloween

Chester dons his costume and sits gallantly for Rachell to take his picture. This is one thing he’s learned that makes her very happy. She likes to snapshot him in all kinds of scenarios.

She is teaching him to be perfectly unmoving and says, “Be still. You miss all the shots you don’t take!”

Rachell releases his sitting with “Ok. You can move!”

Chester lunges toward her to relay his jubilation and barks, “HAPPY HALLOWEEN!”

Safe Place

Chester looks up from his favorite chair after he finds a cozy spot to lay. This is his go-to spot when he settles in for a morning with Rachell in her office to work for a bit. She found this very soft round cushioned chair that is perfect for him to be close enough for her to reach out and scoop him up for a hugging session any time.

Chester looks her way with sparkling eyes as if to say, “Here I am, Momma. I am ready whenever you want to snuggle.”

“I am so lucky to have you, Chessie. You make every day so special,” Rachell shares when she sees his love and adoration as he watches her work.

He is her emotional support pet during stressful times to help her remain calm and collected. What a wonderful reward for her opening her heart to this tiny little yorkie that needed her to save him.

Rachell thinks out loud, “I thought I was rescuing you sweet one, but I believe you rescued me when I needed it most!”

Chester assures her with a happy gaze, “And you gave me my SAFE PLACE.”

King of Kong

Rachell is excited as she heads home with Chester’s new Kong. She ponders if he will be able to play with this like other dogs since he does not have a lower jaw. She thinks by putting some peanut butter inside this particular classic style, he will be motivated to play with it by licking out the creamy treat he loves so much.

Chester is inquisitive about the round red object when Rachell sets it in front of him.

He noses the wobbly toy on to the side exposing the small opening on the end.

“What is this,” Chester investigates?

He immediately captures the scent of one of his favorite pleasures. He finds the source of the aroma.

Rachell tells him about his surprise saying, “This is a Kong, Chester.”

Chester needs no instruction on how to lick the ooey, gooey goodness from inside. His tongue goes into action automatically. Rachell has no worry this is a great toy for Chester. She watches as he is content and happy from the start to engulfing every tidbit of peanut butter inside. She decides her hunt for playthings to help Chester enjoy more of his life is not done, and she is determined to find more toys for a dog with his challenges.

Chester relishes the treat inside his new plaything to the very last morsel and establishes “I’m the KING OF KONG!”

Dreamy Eats

Chester sees the soft mushy dog food in front of him that he usually finds tasteful, but he cannot seem to move himself to eat the bowl of deliciousness tonight. His tummy is upset for some reason. He has never turned down a meal since he arrived at his new forever home. His stomach is grumbling from emptiness, and he is afraid his dinner will not be there if he passes up this chance. He stalls picking at the edges of the food plate.

Rachell notices Chester’s lack of appetite and expresses her concern with him saying “Are you not hungry, Chessie?”

Rachell touches his nose and registers the warm temperature and asks, “Do you not feel good, little man?”

Chester watches her leave the room and waits patiently for her return. After a few minutes, she returns with a cup of morsels he has never seen before.

“What is this food?” Chester wonders as he sniffs the heavenly aroma from the meat Rachell puts on his plate.

“This is chicken,” Rachell shares with him and continues, “We won’t do this every day, Chester.”

Even though his appetite is low, he understands that this is a special meal, and he scarfs up every bite and licks his plate clean.

Rachell is pleased she made this exception to get him to eat and lets him know, announcing how happy she is with “Good boy, Chester. Thank you for eating.”

Now Chester’s belly is full and as he lies down to reflect on tonight’s dinner, he absorbs what has happened thinking, “What a wonderful treat. I’ll call these my DREAMY EATS!”
