A Magical Day

Chester heads downstairs to the den where he finds Rachell watering her plants. As he descends the stairs and lands on the wooden floor, he notices a sound coming from under his feet. He has not heard the clickety click noise ever before. And he feels something new around his tiny paw pads. Something is pushing against the floor. Chester pauses to inspect the new feelings and sounds coming from his paws. He looks closely and sees strange new growth on his toes. He sniffs the dark extensions protruding from each of his toes. He sniffs a tiny, dark protrusion from each of his toes. Rachell spots him smelling his paw tips and wonders what he is inspecting.

“What is this?” Chester wonders.

“Come here little buddy,” Rachell directs him.

Chester saunters over close to her. She picks him up gently to look at his toes.

“Surprise, surprise, Chester! You are growing some toenails,” Rachell declares!

She cuddles him close letting him know this newness is a good thing. She exhibits her joy with the appearance of his growing healthier with each passing day he lives with her.

“You are healing in ways I did not expect, little man,” Rachell shares as she squeezes him gently in her arms.

Chester shows his happiness with furious tail wagging. She sets him back down so they both may enjoy the new sounds his tippy toes make on the wood floor.

“What a blessing to see this amazing improvement,” Rachell proclaims.

Chester asserts his agreement as he dances in front of her, “Yes what a wonderful, MAGICAL DAY!”

Give Her a Paw

Rachell notices a little action Chester begins to use to get her attention. He reaches toward her when he comes in close and touches her gently with his tiny paw. Rachell decides to turn this into a trick for him to get excited about and get his favorite thing, a treat!

She waits as he sits in her lap looking up her way for indications of what comes next. Rachell turns her head from side to side to keep from meeting his eye stare. Next thing, she feels is his paw stretch to her and make contact with her arm to get her attention.

She reaches and shakes his paw while declaring the action, “Shake, Chester, shake.”

Chester looks up inquisitively trying to understand this new word.

Rachell releases his paw and then picks it up again while repeating the word again. “Shake, baby, shake.”

This time she offers him a treat when the trick is done. Chester scarfs up the treat and looks to Rachell for another. Shake, treat, repeat. After several repetitions, Chester raises his paw to her to show her he gets what she is going for. And she gives him another treat as she releases his paw from a successful paw shake.

“Good boy, Chester. Good shake. What a smart boy you are,” Rachell says to him as she raises Chester to her cheek and gives him a quick kiss. He wiggles with delight when he realizes the joy he gives Rachell with this new trick.

Chester knows this fun new trick shows her how quickly he learns and how much he wants to entertain her. New skill in his pocket, Chester logs, “All I have to do is give her a paw!”

Northern Beams

“Off we go again,” Chester notes, “only this time is nighttime.”

“I’ll follow my girl anywhere no matter what the time is,” Chester confirms.

Rachell places him in her lap as they slowly tip down the neighborhood road. After a short few minutes of cruising, they stop in a parking lot up a two lane highway. Rachell shuts of the engine and turns off the head lights. She opens the sunroof and stands in her seat. Chester is curious what she’s up to as he looks up through the opening. Rachell spans the sky seemingly looking for something particular. Chester follows her gaze and sees a display of dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains he has never seen before. He determines this perch makes these dynamic flickers appear before him.

“Wow, what in the world are those?” he questions.

Rachell reaches down and picks her little man up from the passenger seat. She raises him to the edge of the sunroof to help him see the display of lights across the heavens. Chester looks at her inquisitively.

As if to read his mind, she tells him, “These are a natural spectacle we call the Northern Lights, also called the Aurora Borealis. Do you see them?” she asks.

“Yes, yes,” Chester embellishes with a wiggling head and a fast-wagging tail!

Rachell holds him tightly as she continues to watch the scenery. He loves his Rachell intensely sharing this fabulous wonderment of nature as his best buddy keeps him safely tucked in her arms.

In the peace-filled minutes here with his best buddy, Chester feels enlightened by these rays he now calls the Northern Beams.
